Privacy policy

Last updated October 1, 2026

The short version

  • We never sell your data or your videos. Not your drives, charges, locations, dash cam footage or anything else, to anyone.
  • No ads, no ad trackers. PlugLog doesn't show ads, and it doesn't use advertising or analytics cookies.
  • Efficiency data is shared only anonymously, and you can opt out. Your drives help build real-world efficiency numbers for your EV model, never with your name, account, routes or location.
  • You choose whether we get your location. Turn off location data in the car app and PlugLog stops sending where you drive and charge.
  • Your videos are yours. Dash cam footage is uploaded only if you turn on backup, and stays private unless you share it.
  • You can download or delete your data whenever you like.

Who we are

PlugLog is an app for tracking an electric vehicle's efficiency, charging and costs: the website at pluglog.app and the PlugLog app for Android Automotive cars. This policy covers both. Questions about it go to support@pluglog.app.

What we collect

Your account

Your email address (to sign you in with a one-time link or code), and your name if you add one. Your settings, such as units, efficiency unit and home electricity rate. If you join the car app beta, the Google account email you give us for Google Play testing.

From your car, through the PlugLog car app

  • Drives: when they start and end, distance, battery energy used and recovered, speed, battery level, range and temperatures, and (if location data is on) the route driven.
  • Charges: energy added, charging power, battery level, time, and (if location data is on) where the charge happened.
  • Your vehicle: what the car reports about itself, such as make, model, model year and battery capacity, and how it reports battery power.
  • A debug log, if you leave it on: the car's readings during drives and charges, and the app version, to help find and fix problems. You can turn it off in the car app under Privacy.
  • How your dash cam drive is laid out: when you open the car app's dash cam drive chooser, the folders on your USB drives and SD cards, how many files of each kind they hold, and a few video file names, so PlugCam can learn where more cars' dash cams record. Other files are counted, never named.

Dash cam videos, only if you turn on backup

If your car records dash cam footage to a USB drive and you turn on Back up to PlugLog, the car app uploads those clips (from the cameras you choose) to your account. Without backup, footage you watch in the car app stays on the drive and never leaves the car.

If you buy PlugLog Pro

Your plan, how much storage you've bought, when it renews, and the ID Stripe gives you as a customer. Stripe takes the payment: your card details go to Stripe, never to PlugLog.

What you add on the website

Drives, charges and costs you log by hand, saved charging locations (like Home), vehicles in your garage, and feature requests (“I wish…”), which are stored with the page you sent them from, and your conversation with us about them, including any screenshots, videos or zip files you attach. Everyone signed in can read a wish and its replies; only you and the PlugLog team can see the files on it.

How we use it

To run PlugLog for you: working out your efficiency, range and charging costs, showing your drives, charges and videos, keeping your car and the website in sync, signing you in, and emailing you about your account and, if you're a beta tester, app updates. We also use it to fix problems and improve PlugLog. We don't use your data or videos for advertising, and we don't use your videos to train AI models.

What we share, and with whom

Efficiency data, anonymously (on unless you opt out)

We combine drives from everyone who shares efficiency data into real-world efficiency figures for each EV model, by weather, speed and trip length, like those on our real-world efficiency pages, and we may share these combined figures with others. They never include your name, email, account, routes, locations or individual drives. To opt out, turn off Efficiency data sharing in Settings → Data on the website or under Privacy in the car app; it applies to all your drives.

Separately, how a car model reports battery power (for example, the unit it uses) is shared with other PlugLog installs on the same model, so the app reads it correctly from the start. This describes the car, not you.

What you choose to make public

You can make individual drives, charges and dash cam events public. They then appear on your public profile, which anyone with its link can see, along with your first name. On a public drive, the route map is hidden unless you also turn on Share location, and even then the first and last 500 meters are left out. A shared video shows what the cameras saw, which can include where you were, so we ask before sharing one. You can make anything private again at any time. Public pages aren't listed in search engines.

Service providers

We use a few companies to run PlugLog. They handle data only to provide their service to us:

  • Cloudflare hosts the website and stores our database, dash cam videos and emails we send.
  • Mapbox provides the maps, so map views request map tiles for the area being shown.
  • Google distributes the car app through Google Play.
  • Stripe processes payments for PlugLog Pro, under its own privacy policy.

When the law requires it

We may disclose information if we're legally required to, or to protect people's safety or PlugLog from fraud or abuse. If PlugLog is ever sold or merged, this policy continues to apply to your data, and we'll tell you before anything changes.

Location data

With location data on, the car app sends each drive's route and its start and end points, where charges happen (so they can be matched to places like Home), and your position while driving for the live view on the website. To turn it off, open the car app's account menu, choose Privacy, and switch off Location data. Drives still keep their speed, battery level and efficiency, but charges can't be matched to saved places. It applies to everything sent from then on, including drives and charges still waiting to upload.

Dash cam videos

Backed-up videos are stored privately in your account, encrypted at rest. Only you can watch them unless you share an event on your public profile. You can delete any event, from every camera, on the Videos page, and it's removed from storage straight away. Video storage is part of a paid plan; how much you're using is shown on the Videos page.

Cookies

The website uses two cookies: one that keeps you signed in, and one that remembers which vehicle you're viewing. There are no advertising, analytics or third-party tracking cookies.

How long we keep it

  • Your account data, drives, charges and videos: until you delete them or your account.
  • Debug logs: 14 days.
  • On the car: drives and charges already uploaded are kept on the head unit for 30 days, so the car app can show them offline.
  • If you delete your account, everything in it is deleted right away, including your videos. It can't be recovered.

Your choices and rights

  • Download your drives and charges as CSV files from Settings → Data.
  • Correct your details in Settings, and edit what you've logged.
  • Delete drives, charges and video events, or your whole account and everything in it, in Settings → Data.
  • Opt out of efficiency data sharing, location data and the debug log, as described above.

Depending on where you live, you may have further rights over your data, such as asking what we hold about you. Email support@pluglog.app and we'll help.

Security

Everything travels over encrypted connections. You sign in with one-time links or codes instead of passwords, and the car app's access can be signed out at any time. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data and will tell you if a breach affects it.

Children

PlugLog is meant for drivers, and isn't directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect their data.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. For significant changes, we'll tell you by email or in the app before they take effect.
