Getting started
What is PlugLog?
PlugLog tracks your EV: every drive and charge, your real efficiency, range and cost per mile, in one place. Drives and charges can record on their own from the car app, a Tesla account or Android Auto, or you can log charges by hand.
Link to this answerDoes it work with every EV?
You can add any all-electric vehicle in the EPA's catalog, from 1998 through this year's models, and log its drives and charges by hand. Drives and charges are recorded automatically on EVs with Android Automotive (Google built-in), using the PlugLog car app, and on Teslas, straight from your Tesla account with nothing to install in the car. On other EVs, the PlugLog app for Android records your drives through Android Auto.
Link to this answerHow do I add my vehicle?
In the Garage, give it a nickname and pick the year, make and model. If yours isn't listed, type its name. For a Tesla, choose Connect to my Tesla account.
Link to this answerCan I track more than one vehicle?
Yes. Free accounts can track up to 2 vehicles, and Pro has no limit. Each keeps its own history, efficiency trends and costs.
Link to this answerDo I need any hardware?
No. The car app, a Tesla account or Android Auto record on their own, and you can log any charge by hand from the numbers on the charger and your dashboard. A Bluetooth OBD-II reader is optional: it adds battery details like temperatures and cell voltages.
Link to this answerIs PlugLog free?
Tracking your drives and charges with the car app (on cars with Android Automotive) is free, with full history, efficiency, range and costs, for up to 2 vehicles. PlugLog Pro is $59 a year and adds the Route Planner (road trips planned on the web with charging stops that fit your car, then picked in the car), the reports (mileage, reimbursement and battery health), any number of vehicles and API access. PlugCam storage, for backing up your car's cameras, is $39 a year per 50 GB, and Teslas, recorded straight from your Tesla account, are $59 a year each: neither needs Pro. New accounts get Pro and 50 GB of PlugCam storage free for 30 days, and you can try a Tesla free for 3 months.

What's my password?
There isn't one. Enter your email and we send you a sign-in link. It works once and expires in 15 minutes.
Link to this answerCan I open the sign-in link on another device?
Yes. The page that asked for the link shows a code. Open the link anywhere, check the code matches, and approve it. The first page then signs in by itself.
Link to this answerHow do I sign in on my vehicle's screen?
Scan the QR code on the screen with your phone, check the code matches, and approve on the page it opens. New to PlugLog? Scanning creates your account. Or choose Use email instead and open the link we send on your phone. There's no password to type on the dash.
Link to this answerWill my vehicle keep asking me to sign in?
No. The car app stays signed in as long as it's used at least every 90 days.
Link to this answerCan I export my data?
Anytime. Download every drive and charge as CSV from Settings → Data. Your data is yours. Pro also includes a read-only API for pulling it into your own tools.
Link to this answerHow do I delete my account?
In Settings → Data, choose Delete my account and type your email to confirm. Everything is erased right away: drives, charges, vehicles, PlugCam clips, your public profile and shared links. It also signs your vehicle out. There's no undo.
Link to this answerWhy am I asked to accept the terms again?
When we publish new terms or a new privacy policy, everyone is asked to read and accept them, on the web and in the apps.
Link to this answerThe iPhone app
What does PlugLog for iPhone do?
Your drives, charges and trips, with your efficiency and costs, a live view of a drive or charge as it happens, chargers that fit your car on a map, your PlugCam videos, receipts, maintenance, recalls, badges and reports. It's the same app as PlugLog for Android, built from the same code.
Link to this answerHow do I sign in on my iPhone?
Read and accept the terms, then enter your email. We send you a sign-in link: open it and approve it if it shows the same code as the app.
Link to this answerCan I follow a charge from my lock screen?
Yes. A charge in progress shows as a Live Activity on the lock screen and in the Dynamic Island.
Link to this answerIs there an Apple Watch app?
Yes. It shows your vehicle's battery and range and how fresh they are, a charge in progress, and asks how a public charger worked after you charge there. Add Battery and range to a watch face as a complication. It gets everything from your iPhone, so there's no sign-in on the watch.
Link to this answerWhy does the iPhone app ask for Bluetooth, location or the camera?
Bluetooth connects to your OBD-II reader. Location shows chargers near you. The camera and photos are for a charging receipt, or photos and videos for a trip.
Link to this answerDoes PlugLog work with CarPlay?
Not yet. On iPhone, use the PlugLog app itself, its lock screen Live Activity and the Apple Watch app.
Link to this answerCan I buy Pro in the iPhone app?
No. Billing in the app opens your plan at pluglog.app, where you can buy and manage it.
Link to this answerThe Android phone app
What does PlugLog for Android do?
It shows your car's drive or charge as it happens: speed, battery, power and efficiency, live from the car app. Every drive and charge is there too, with chargers that fit your car on a map, your PlugCam videos, and PlugLog on Android Auto when you plug in.
Link to this answerHow do I get the Android app?
The Android app is in beta. Create a free account, then ask to join from your dashboard with the Google account you use on Google Play: Google Play only lets testers in by its email.
Link to this answerWhat does PlugLog do on Android Auto?
It records your drives from what the car shares with Android Auto: battery level, range, speed and odometer. A drive starts when the car moves and uploads when you park. Where to? lists your planned trips, favorites and charging spots, and hands each stop to Google Maps for directions. You can find chargers and check in too.
Link to this answerWhy is Android Auto's efficiency an estimate?
Android Auto doesn't share battery power, so PlugLog works out the energy from how much the battery level dropped and your battery's size.
Link to this answerIs there a Wear OS app?
Yes. It has a battery complication, tiles for a quick look and a charge in progress, and asks how a charge went. It needs the PlugLog phone app on your phone.

What does the car app do?
Driving an EV with Google built-in? PlugLog is a navigation app for your car's screen: Google's map and turn-by-turn, charging stops planned for your car, and your speed, battery and efficiency always in view. Every drive and charge is recorded on its own and synced to your account. Nothing to type at the charger.
Link to this answerHow do I set it up?
Add PlugLog to your car (it runs on the center screen as a navigation app), sign in, and pick the vehicle from your garage. Drives and charges then record on their own and upload whenever the car has a signal.
Link to this answerWe share the car. Can each driver have their own vehicle?
Yes. Each driver profile on the car picks the vehicle its drives go to. Add the vehicle at pluglog.app/garage first.
Link to this answerWhat if the car has no signal?
Drives and charges are still recorded and upload once the car reconnects.
Link to this answerWhat is the trip coach?
On a guided trip, PlugLog compares your pace with what the trip needs. If you're on course to arrive at a stop low, it says so on the trip card and once out loud, with what to do: slow down a little, or stop sooner.
Link to this answerDoes PlugLog remind me to warm the battery before fast charging?
Yes. On a guided trip, when the battery is cold enough to charge slowly, a PREP BATTERY band shows before a DC fast stop and PlugLog says it once. PlugLog can't warm the battery itself: use your car's own setting.
Link to this answerCan I send a charger to my car?
Yes. Find a charger on the web or in the phone app and choose Send to car. Trips you plan on the web show in the car's Where to?.
Link to this answerWhat happened to the car app's old screens?
To get through Google's review, car apps have to be built from the car's own templates, so PlugLog was rebuilt as a navigation app. Nothing's gone: every drive, charge, chart and PlugCam video is still in the PlugLog app for Android and on the web.
Link to this answerDoes PlugLog work with my car's cameras?
If your car has Google built-in and records its cameras to a USB drive (like GM's Surround Vision Recorder), PlugCam, our video app, plays every camera on the car's screen when you're parked and backs your clips up to PlugLog with PlugCam storage ($39 a year per 50 GB, no Pro needed). Watch them in the car, at plugcam.app or on pluglog.app, in sync with your speed and power, and share them. See plugcam.app. We're adding more cars.
Link to this answerOBD-II reader
What does an OBD-II reader add?
Battery details your car doesn't otherwise share: temperatures, cell voltages and more. The phone app (Android or iPhone) or the car app connects to it over Bluetooth.
Link to this answerWhich readers work?
Bluetooth LE readers (look for BLE or Bluetooth 4.0+). Classic Bluetooth readers don't work with iPhone or the car, and Wi-Fi readers and readers that need their own app or subscription won't work. See pluglog.app/obd-readers for the readers drivers have used, and on which vehicles.
Link to this answerWhich vehicles can it read the battery on?
The obd-readers page lists, from drivers' own scans, which vehicles each reader read the battery on, on the phone and in the car.
Link to this answerCan the reader change anything on my vehicle?
No. PlugLog only asks the vehicle for readings through it. It doesn't change settings or clear codes.
Link to this answerHow do I connect a reader?
Plug it in under the dash, turn the vehicle on and put it in Park, and close PlugLog on any other device. Then set it up in the Garage, on your vehicle's OBD-II reader.

How is efficiency calculated?
With the car app or a linked Tesla, it's each drive's distance divided by the energy the battery actually delivered, read from the car many times a minute, with regen subtracted. Through Android Auto, where the car only shares its battery level, it's worked out from how much the battery level dropped. If you only log charges by hand, PlugLog divides the miles since your previous charge by the energy that charge added, which also counts charging losses. Tap the ? beside any efficiency figure for the details.
Link to this answerCan I see efficiency in other units?
Yes: mi/kWh, Wh/mi or km/kWh, and more. Switch anytime.
Link to this answerHow does PlugLog know what my home charging costs?
Set a rate for home, work, or anywhere you charge, in Settings → Charging, and every charge there is costed automatically. Time-of-use pricing works too: add an off-peak rate and its hours.
Link to this answerWhat about free charging at work?
Set Work's rate to $0 in Settings → Charging. Those charges still count toward the energy you've added, and your cost per mile reflects the free miles.
Link to this answerCan I log a charge by hand?
Yes. On Charges, choose Log a charge and enter start and end %, energy added, cost, and miles since your last charge.
Link to this answerHow do I add a public charge's exact cost?
Forward the receipt email (from Electrify America, EVgo, ChargePoint and more) to receipts@pluglog.app from your PlugLog email, and PlugLog puts its exact cost on the charge. You can also upload a screenshot, photo or PDF, or paste the text, on Receipts. It's free.
Link to this answerWhat is a charger check-in?
After a public charge, say how it went: charged fine, couldn't charge, the plug didn't fit, the spot was taken, and so on. It helps other drivers know which chargers work, and it's posted to Open Charge Map too.
Link to this answerCan I keep towing out of my efficiency?
Yes. Mark a drive as towing, then filter towing drives out on Drives.
Link to this answerCan I group a road trip?
Yes. Group a road trip's drives and charges into a trip, and see its totals together.
Link to this answerWhat is the Route Planner?
Part of Pro: plan a road trip on the web with charging stops that fit your car, from your own efficiency, with the weather along the way. Save it, then pick it in the car app's Where to?.
Link to this answerWhat reports are there?
Costs, with your cost per mile, for everyone. With Pro: a mileage log for business drives, home charging reimbursement, and a battery health report with a certificate you can share.
Link to this answerPlans and billing
What do I get with Pro?
Any number of vehicles, the Route Planner, the reports (mileage, reimbursement and battery health) and API access. Recording and viewing your drives and charges stays free.
Link to this answerIs there a free trial?
Yes. New accounts get Pro and 50 GB of PlugCam storage free for 30 days. We won't charge you unless you subscribe.
Link to this answerHow am I billed?
Yearly, through Stripe, on one subscription for everything you add. Your card details go to Stripe, never to PlugLog. Add something partway through a year and you pay for the rest of that year.
Link to this answerHow do I cancel?
Choose Manage billing on the Upgrade page at pluglog.app. Your plan lasts until the end of the year you've paid for and doesn't renew.
Link to this answerCan I get a refund?
Payments aren't refunded, except where the law requires it. If something went wrong with a charge, email support@pluglog.app and we'll make it right.
Link to this answerWhy is my Tesla paused?
A Tesla your plan doesn't cover, after its free months say, is paused: PlugLog stops recording it until you add it to your plan.

My sign-in link doesn't work.
Links expire after 15 minutes and work once. Ask for a new one and open it straight away.
Link to this answerMy drives aren't showing up.
Check the car app is signed in and a vehicle is chosen: until then, drives and charges are recorded but wait on the car. They upload once the car has a signal. If you signed out, sign in again and they upload.
Link to this answerMy OBD-II reader won't connect.
Make sure it's plugged in and the vehicle is on, and close PlugLog on any other device that may be holding it. If it connects but the vehicle doesn't answer, unplug it for a few seconds and try again.
Link to this answerHow do I update the apps?
When a new version is out, the app says so. Tap it to update on Google Play, or update from the App Store on iPhone.
Link to this answerSupport asked me to turn on the debug log. How?
In the car app's account menu, open Privacy and turn on Debug log. It records every reading to help us fix problems, and is kept for 4 days. Turn it off the same way.
Link to this answerHow do I ask for a feature?
